Just made most amazing soup last night. I would recommend it to everyone. Yum yum, and Vegetarian friendly.
1 onion diced
1 large carrot sliced
1 celery stalk sliced
4 medium cloves of garlic
2 tbs of butter
1/4 tsp of salt
Sauté in a soup pot on medium heat for 8 min or until onions start to go translucent.
Add:
4 potatoes diced small (peeled)
4 cups of water
1/4 cup of milk
2 chicken flavor cubes (goya)
salt and pepper to taste
Bring to boil and then put it on simmer until potatoes are done!
Can I tell you how much I love Wipe Out? The show is so funny. The challenges, the nicknames, “No Effron Way!”, the face plants, the mud, the paint, and the big balls. Such a childish, but brilliant show. To all my “Runners” in other countries… do they show Wipe Out? If they do… Watch it! It is a summer treat!
Oh how I love watching football. I love it. Its a simple yet complicated game. The rules are straight forward and the players work the ball like a chess piece. It is the most beautiful game. And the players are at peak physical form and can lob a ball from one end of the pitch to the other. In my dreams I fancy myself a football player… but only in my dreams. I once tried a rainbow kick and ended up ruining my knee for the rest of my life, at least I have a funny story out of it. God didn’t make me for being anything else but being a goalie. Running, not the best at, I don’t have skilled feet to play the ball up or down the field, but God made me have large, fast hands that have a skill for catching. I was made to be a goalie… at least while I am dreaming.
So, I always watch the goalies and look to see what they do and how they do it. Now that The World Cup is going on in Africa, the importance of a great goal keeping has come up. If you want to know the difference between a great goalie and a good goalie, watch the USA vs. England in the 2010 World Cup. Howard is a great goalie, that man is so skilled it is amazing. And it makes me happy to know that he is on our side. Green is a good goalie, with a little bad luck… really really bad luck actually. I would hate be him right now. The talking heads on the t.v. are ripping him apart and English news papers aren’t taking the high road either. The only thing the man can do is play on.
I love talking about football. And yes it is football, not soccer… everyone else in the world calls it football.
The most beautiful game in the world is being played right now, so change the channel and support a team. And when your team scores you can do what I do… get up and do a little happy dance.
Or you can take a look at my favorite players:
Giggs
I don’t get the hairstyles today. What is with the Efron, Bieber, Grayson, side swept look? I don’t get it. Do they think that they are attractive and ladies like it. It also seems that if you have that hair style you might also wear tight girly pants. I just looked up “women, short, hairstyles” on Google and all their haircuts popped up. Why are men in America becoming so feminine? Seriously, I loved watching Grayson on Youtube sing Paparazzi. I understand the love of Lady Gaga because I am completely in love with her music. But come on thats a woman’s song. Men need to be men and women need to be women. I hate shopping and seeing men (or women for that matter) in super tight fitting clothing. It can’t be good for their circulation.
I bet in 10 years these guys go to the doctor and they are having problems (you can fill in the problem), and the doctor asks: Did you wear tight girly pants when you were younger? That is the problem, I am sorry it looks like I will have to amputate.
Come on men, go to the Banana or Eddie Bauer and buy some pants that fit you. Don’t buy bedazzled lady pants, you are not emo… you are effeminate. Men should dress like Don Draper and less like Hannah Montana.
Ok, its National Geek Pride Day. And there are a few things I totally and absolutely Geek out about. I am obsessed with Battlestar Galatica, and my life mission is to get everyone to watch the show. I am also becoming a big fan of most Sci-Fi. Like Star Wars 4-6, Firefly, Star Trek, Fringe, Flash Forward, and so many others. I also love love love The Big Bang Theory, and I watch obsessively periodicvideos on Youtube. I also love watching and rewatching Susan Boyle sing on BGT. I am also a Musical Geek and a Geek of movies made in 1954. Strange but look it up, it was a great year for movies. I also geek out on a great website called Ikariam, if you have a spare min in your day come and join me on there. I Geek out about typefaces and cool ideas in Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, and Illustrator. I am addicted to BBCA News, the Discovery Channel, and Soccer. These things probably aren’t that geeky, but I Geek out about them. So let your Geek Freak Flag Fly today, and don’t be afraid to be different… because thats what makes life fun.
Its time for a redesign of my entire brand. I want to completely rejuvenate Andirun Desings. Its funny, but when you are a designer, you work on everyone else’s designs and never your own. Ask me how long it took me to make my own business cards! My current websites are a joke and its time for a change. I had a long conversations with my colleague Joel Lopez and we brainstormed about websites, and then the conversation turned to my own website. And he really inspired me to take a brand new look at my own site, starting from the beginning. So I am starting from scratch. I emailed friends, colleagues, and clients and asked them to give me some words that represent who I am, my skills and the way I work as a designer. This will help me get an objective point of view of myself. I could want to be one kind of designer, but in the end it would be false and not who I am. Take for instance my website when I graduated from college, it was fussy and pretentious… essentially not me. In the end… I am right back at the beginning again.
Don’t you hate it when you get excited about something and share it with people, only to see it go down in flames? That is what happened to my painting on fabric. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, Oh well. I know now not to paint on fabric, just to dye the whole thing one solid color. So, I cut up the fabric and made my sister a shrug for a dress I just made her. It will look super cute and not so matchy matchy. I hopefully will post a pic once she gets it on… It might be a while. But other than that, all is well.
I have begun to do more sewing and crafty projects. Right now I am in the middle of painting on fabric so that I can make a dress. It has definitely been an education. I have decided to take photos of it in process.
Words can inspire people and push people to do mad and crazy things. Actions can cause change for good, better, or worse. Words can also be empty and can mean nothing, but actions always cause an effect. We just have to look at our trusty friend Newton and his wondrous laws, his third law to be precise. Third Law: Every action has a reaction equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. In this argument I am pro actions and words I can take them or leave them. I would like to think most people would agree with me on this. There are many examples of unfulfilled promises and hollow words. Take the biggest offenders: Politicians, Presidents, School Boards, Husbands, Wives, Boyfriends, Girlfriends, Old Friends, or Work Colleges. We hear a promise for Health Care reform and I think… Show me. I hear a promise for a project to be finished at 12 and I think… Show me.
I am sorry if I am going Eliza Doolittle on everyone, but I believe people should do what they say. Nothing is worse than someone who says they will do something and then don’t back it up. Everyone fails at this, some more than others. I intend to make a better effort in my life to follow my own advice, and I hope everyone else will too.
